2012 Volunteers Wanted

Hello, it has been a while but we feel Spring in the air!  We are happy to be planning for our fourth growing season, thanks to a donation by Bakers Creek Heirloom Seed  http://rareseeds.com/ (please support them) we are preparing seed flats and dreaming of Spring.  We grew 678 pounds of produce in 2011, we really think it was more since so much was picked and eaten before it had a chance to get weighed.  We will have 20 youth participating this season, and everyone from last season is excited to return.

We need your help

We are in need of gardeners, cooks, and all others interested in building our community.

Volunteer shifts are Wednesday evenings 4:00-7:00 and Saturday sessions 10:00-2:00, as well as other times that are TBD, all volunteers must complete a criminal background check with our umbrella organization Colorado Nonprofit Development Center.

If you are interested in joining us please contact Denise Lines at deniselines@yahoo.com, or 720-685-3172.

Thanks again and lookout for more updates…remember us on Facebook!  D

 Saying Goodbye

Hello everyone it is the month of August, and our first Saturday of the month. I Amina and I am doing the blog for this week. This week went great, we did harvest in each garden and everything is coming up great.

We also had a party this week for one of our friends, Lauren, who has been with us for long time…ever since GCK started. We had to throw a party, because she leaving for Macao to teach for a whole year.  All of GCK will miss her and she promises to FB us and tell us about her adventures….we will miss you Lauren…..Anyway we all brought home some vegetables and even our volunteers had some shares too. It was great all the kids were happy to take vegetables home. We are looking forward to the next week.  Most of the kids are fasting this month because it is Ramadan. Thanks
Amina.S

 Lunch Fresh From The Garden

We had a lot of things that we harvested this week like broccoli, Bush beans, Cabbage, Caul flower, onions, Eggplants and some other things. We also had a challenge to use 3 three vegetables that we harvested for lunch, which we did. When I asked people about how they felt about the day they said  that the lunch was delicious and the vegetables were good too, because they were fresh and just had been harvested. The work that we did in the gardens was not hard but because it was hot it made it hard to work. When we were done the gardens looked really good. Thanks for Reading my blog
