GCK partners with CNDC

We are excited and honored to now be partnered with Colorado Nonprofit Development Center, CNDC. CNDC’s mission is is to foster the development of a healthy and vibrant nonprofit sector in Colorado by enhancing the effective and efficient use of community resources and by supporting the development of charitable projects and nonprofits. We applied and were accepted in December of 2010 and our relationship began January 2011. This will really assist in GCK growing as an organization. The support and education we have already received from CNDC and their staff has had a great positive impact on us. We look forward to learning and partnering with CNDC!  Season Three is Beginning!

We are beginning a new season and we are looking for new kids around age 9-21. If you want to join or know someone who would want to join or might be interested Growing Colorado Kids is a lot of fun, yet a lot of work. One of the most coolest parts of it is that we get to meet new people. Some of the things we do is are go to people’s gardens. We farm in people’s garden and after like 2 months we harvest and we take the vegetables to The Same Cafe and we sell the vegetables to them. Last year we want to Aspen and we are going to Aspen again this year so thats one of the funnest part about Growing Colorado. If you want to email Denise at deniselines@yahoo.com and she will send you the Applications. BY ANIFA

 The Gathering Place

October 28th we want to The Gathering Place to give snacks to the homeless people. We all meet at Pattie and Denise’s houses at 10:00 am in the morning to cook sambas’s before going. We had a fun time cooking the sambas’s and after cooking the sambas’s we want to The Gathering Place. Denise’s boss give us a tour of the place and explained to us what every room was for. I think what they are doing at The Gathering Place is a very good thing. I think they give people hope and they make people feel better about themselves and make them feel like they have a 2nd chance in life. They make them feel like they are at home. After touring the place, we went to the launch room to make a fruit salad. We served it to the people and they liked the fruit salad and sambas. I think the whole day was fun, my favorite part was serving the food and the tour. On the tour I liked the playground on the top of the roof, I thought that was very cool. That was so much fun.

Work Hard Play Hard Meet Mr. Big Puff Daddy

Play time

Mr. Big Puff Daddy

This Saturday was a great harvest.  The anticipation by our young farmers in the car before we get to the gardens to harvest is exciting.  Once we pull up the hunt is on, kids run to the gardens to see what is ready, seeking out the harvestable vegetables, yelling out “I found one”, “look at this”.  This weekend we found him, Mr. Big Puff Daddy he was named, Abdikadi needed 2 hands to show him off in this photo.  We harvested over 50 pounds having plenty for our hosts, kids, and to sell.

All hard workers need to play hard too.  After our morning work was done it was time to play, we headed to the City Park interactive fountain and had a great time.  We played football, frisbee, and of course got really wet! DL
